Zinc Phosphate Coatings
Zinc Phosphate coatings serve as a base for organic coatings. This coating possesses a large crystalline structure, and as such, it is an excellent medium for holding oil and waxes. In addition, it forms a tightly adherent coating with the base metal, which in turn, makes for an excellent base for paints and other materials. A Zinc Phosphate treatment provides a uniform coating that is particularly suitable for rust proofing items with small holes or recesses and threaded features. Furthermore, it also vastly improves lubricity and provides substantial corrosion protection by bonding the final finish of wax, oil, paint or stain to the treated items.
Elite Metal Finishing provides Zinc Phosphate Coatings in two variations:
- Light – TT-C-490 / Type I and Type V (pre-treatment for paint)
- Heavy – MIL-DTL-16232 / Type Z – Class 1, 2, 3 (with or without supplementary oil)
Advantages of Zinc Phosphate Coatings:
- It provides an excellent paint or solid film lubricant resin bonding
- Improves corrosion protection by providing a good base for absorbing and retaining rust preventing materials
- The finish does not chip, flake or peel
- Reduces damage from galling
